Certification without Complication
PAS 43 is a Publicly Available Specification and contains the requirements for the management of road recovery operators with the aim of improving health and safety and promoting best practice. It sets out the minimum standards for recovery operators and is intended to secure the health and safety of road recovery operator technicians and road users.
It promotes best practice procedures for attending vehicle breakdowns at the roadside, the recovery and/or removal of vehicles from the roadside, the type, maintenance and safety marking of road recovery vehicles and equipment, the training and behaviour of road recovery technicians, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) by road recovery technicians, the maintenance and organization of road recovery operators premises, the effective implementation and maintenance of standard operating procedures.
Recovering vehicles from the roadside can be extremely dangerous, especially on fast flowing roads such as motorways and dual carriageways. Certification to PAS 43 can help reduce the risks involved as it ensures minimum standards of safety are in place as detailed above.
Most motoring organizations, the Police and the Highways Agency now require vehicle recovery operators working under their remit to be PAS 43 certified and is usually a pre requisite for tendering for such work.
Certification to PAS 43 is carried out alongside certification to ISO 9001.
