Acquisition of Avalon Certification Limited

Earlier this year, Avalon Certification Limited (ACL) was acquired by the British Assessment Bureau and over the next couple of months the two businesses will come together under one brand. We honestly believe that the combined strengths of both businesses will complement one another to deliver an improved experience for all our customers, both existing and new.

We have provided below further information to help ACL customers understand more about the changes and how this acquisition will affect them and their business.

Q: I am a new customer and have an audit booked. How will this impact me and my business?

A: If you have an audit booked or due before the 30th November your Agreement will be performed by ACL in the normal way. If your audit is due after 1st December then it will be conducted as a BAB audit, but where possible it will be conducted by your existing ACL Auditor.

Q: I am an existing customer and have a surveillance visit booked. How will this impact me and my business?

A: If you have a surveillance visit booked or due before the 30th November your Agreement will be performed by ACL in the normal way. If your visit is due after 1st December then it will be conducted as a BAB visit, but where possible it will be conducted by your existing ACL Auditor.

Q: I am an existing customer – will my certificate be re-issued under the BAB brand?

A: Unless you tell us otherwise, by the 11th October deadline, we will transfer your certificates to BAB and you will receive your BAB certificate by the end of December 2019.

Q: My website and marketing materials feature the ACL certificate and branding – do I need to change these over?

A: We understand that both you and your customers value your ISO Certification and that being able to demonstrate your certification through the use of ‘certification badges’ helps with conveying the quality of your business. However, we also understand that changing the logos over from ACL to BAB may be quite some undertaking, especially where you have printed items or used the badges in more permanent locations (e.g. vehicles). Given this we want to do all we can to support these objectives and we will therefore be taking the following measures:

• We will update the ACL website with a new, combined logo, to reflect the relationship between the two brands and provide a prominent notice together with a link to a page containing details of the acquisition and its implications.

• Whilst we will not be creating any new ACL assets after 30th November, the ACL website will remain live as a point of reference for our clients and your customers for the foreseeable future (should we have plans to change this, then we will notify you in advance).

• Any customers that transfer their certificates from ACL to BAB will be given access to an online client portal where they will be able to access a selection of digital assets (logos and badges). You will receive a separate communication once access has been granted.

We would therefore recommend that the following approach is taken to changing the branding from ACL to BAB:

• any non-digital items (including vehicles) are changed as part of a rolling change as/when items come up for re-printing/renewal after the end of November. There is not a deadline for this.

• any digital items are changed by the end of December 2019, if at all possible (where it can be done without cost). Otherwise, at the soonest cost-free convenient opportunity.

Q: What will happen if I do not confirm my agreement to the transfer or make alternative arrangements by the deadline of 11th October?

A: If we have not received a confirmation from you by 11th October we will assume that you do not object to the transfer of your certificate(s) to BAB. In this case we will arrange for you to receive your new certificate(s) by the end of December 2019.

Q: Will your prices change?

A: We do not have plans to change the standard pricing for the services you currently receive. In time, we may offer you alternative services to complement those you currently receive; however you should continue to enjoy the same services and pricing for the foreseeable future.

Q: Will you be offering any additional standards or services?

A: The British Assessment Bureau is a growing and ambitious brand, committed to supporting our customers’ needs. We are therefore constantly monitoring the market and obtaining feedback from our customers in order to identify the most appropriate services to offer. Q: Will my auditor change?

A: We are keen to maintain, as much as possible, all of your existing infrastructure and contacts. Therefore, except in exceptional circumstances, or where it suits both parties, you will be able to continue working with your existing auditor.

Q: We have PAS 43 or NHSS17/17B – how does this affect our LANTRA registration?

A: Once your certificate has been transferred to BAB you will need to update your NHSS listing on the Lantra website and upload your new BAB Certificate.
